October 04, 2019Phil was awarded a Purple Heart for wounds incurred during the retreat from Chosin Reservoir during the Korean War on August 30, 1950. He was recovering in a hospital in Japan when he heard that the Marines were going back up the peninsula and walked out of the hospital against doctor's orders to go back with them.
